Never heard of
the Pomodoro Technique™?

Its a quite simple method to increase productivity. Basically, all you have to do is concentrate 25 minutes on one todo item. Then you have a 5 minute break. (Of course, more experienced users can change the timer options).

the Pomodoro Technique™

Beta 3 is now available!

Only one week after celebrating the second beta, we are already in the third, and I have only one more on my pomdorohelper project list until the beta will become pomodorohelper 2.0.

If you have not converted to the beta yet, be sure to do it now and get all the nice new features and even a fully functional internet explorer experience ;)

Go to http://beta.pomodorohelper.com

If you created your pomodorohelper account before august 9th, your user is already activated for the new beta. If you created your user after august 9th, you have to recreate it at the beta signup (it will only take 15 seconds, I timed it! :-) )

Updates in this beta:

Almost all improvement requests and bug repors came from our community this week. Isn't that impressive?

  • Bugfix: EST Value is now correctly set when editing an item
  • Feature: If your Browser crashes or you leave your current timer page, the time will keep running. It will reset on voiding the unit, completing units in the todo list or if the timer runs out. If the timer runs out while you are not on the timer page, it will not complete the unit, so try to be on the page when the timer runs out.
  • Bugfix: After clicking on a save button once, this button will be disabled to prevent accidently double-saving. Once the save operation is done, the save button will be clickable again
  • Improvement: It is now possible to delete items in the project view
  • Bugfix: Dragging an item from the unfinished into the todo list will now hide the "no items"-placeholder
  • Feature: Time based items! When creating an item, you can now choose a date to reopen this item. It will automatically appear the first time you log in on that day. There a tons of possibilites to create dates, so even if you have to do your laundry every second day of the third week of every second month, you can create this via the repeat-options.

Thanks to our community members Scott, Daniel, David, Nathan, Jaakko, Filip and Steven for reporting these bugs and feature requests!

Whats next?

I hope I will be able to release the next and final beta next week at the same time. In that beta stage, I will release the final feature I have planned for ph2.0 (pomodorohelper 2.0) and I think you will like it. There will also be more bugfixes and features courtesy of our community. And I will try to finally include a small api, so all you coders out there can take ph2.0 to a whole new level.

Sidenote

I was planning to rename the pomodorohelper to something else, but after a quick email discussion with the "Pomodoro Technique"(tm) team (thanks to Katrin for the fast response) the pomodorohelper will remain pomodorohelper! Now i just have to tell my designer that he has to redo the logo ideas... ;)

If you find a bug or have a feature request, just mail us at support@pomodorohelper.com and be sure to try the beta, check out the new features and be prepared for the next and final beta shortly!

BETA is here!

Hello World! :)

I have finally launched the pomodoro helper 2.0 BETA! You can access it with your current pomodorohelper user or create a new one at  http://beta.pomodorohelper.com/

You can already use the beta like a normal application, I have no plans to reset the database, so there will be a smooth transition from the old to the new application at the end of the beta.

At the moment, not all new features are online, but I will launch them one by one. For now, in the new beta there are:

  • Projects!
  • Improved Records
  • Internet Explorer access (finally, but at the moment only for ie7 + ie8, and of course for every other browser like firefox, safari and chrome)
  • Changed "import from old todo list" to a whole new concept
  • improved design with a much cleaner start page
  • in-app help
  •  and many more

I hope you like the new app and use it! :) If you have any ideas to improve the new app, find bugs (I hope you don't find any...), or just want to share your thoughts about the app, just mail me at support@pomodorohelper.com

Survey ends, new version is coming soon

Thanks a lot for this many survey entries, interesting ideas and comments! The new version with many improvements will go to beta THIS WEEK! Everyone can use the new beta as soon at it goes live, and I think once you use this, you do not want to go back to the old one ;-), but of course, as long as the new version is in beta state, this version will stay up and running, so you can work with the pomodoro helper the whole time.

Do you take long breaks?

When working with the pomodoro technique, it is recommend to take a long break after every 4 units. Of course, you don't have to, but it is relaxing for your brain and the half hour break can be used to eat, take a nap or do other non-work stuff which can't be done in your 5 minute breaks.

To help you count the units you done and if you should take a long break the next time an unit is finished, I have added a counter to the timer page which counts the units you have done since your last long break. Thanks to Scott Schulthess for this idea. The counter will also reset after eight hours if you haven't done an unit, so every morning, you should start with a zero counter. If you have any problems with this new feature, just mail me.

Today's Update also includes a bugfix. Items which are imported from your yesterday's todo list to your active inventory now don't have any units done already.

UPDATE: I've tweaked the counter so that it will only be shown at the end of an unit and during the break, so there is less clutter on the timer page while working.
